Lizzie adopted me Aug 17, 2001. One evening, I had my patio door open and she walked right on in like she owned the place. I didn’t want to be mean but I’d never owned a cat before and really wasn’t wanting one. I put her back outside where she stayed on my patio for the next 2 weeks.

One afternoon, it was about 110 degrees outside, I noticed she was breathing funny. I felt so bad for her so I gave her some food & water and let her inside to cool off. She loved on me and that’s all it took. I had her checked out by a vet & he said she was about 6-8 mons old, very healthy but VERY pregnant. (Great!)

But because she was still so little, she only had 2 little girls, 2 days after 9/11. I found a good home for one and kept the other: Roxy (I’ll send a pic of Foxy Roxy next week) Lizzie has given me so much. She is my heart, my best friend and my kid. She’s been through the most saddest time of my life with me. Lizzie knows when her mommy doesn’t feel well and she’s the best snuggle-bunny ever. I’m also very proud to say she says “Mama” 🙂 We play “hide & seek”, she’s so fun. Her “sugars” are awesome.

I know I won’t have her forever and it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. I’ve been so blessed because of this little furry angel :)”

It’s heartwarming to read of how these animals came into lives and our hearts. I had a cat named Mitzi for 20 years who brought so much joy into my home. Since her passing I have gotten involved with fostering cats and kittens and with a rescue group and local shelter. It makes me appreciate her all the more for having been in my life for so many years. http://animalsinourworld.blogspot.com/

Very much enjoyed this blog! We have 2 all-white sister cats named Springer and Softail who are probably 9 or 10 years old now. They fuss with each other and get on each other’s nerves sometimes, but other times they cuddle together sleeping and licking each other in the sweetest way! There is white hair on everything in the house and my husband gets frustrated with all the hair, but we love them dearly.

My daughter rescued them as tiny kittens from abandonment in a box in the Pizza Hut parking lot in Richardson, TX. She asked if we wanted them (knowing I love cats and have had several who’ve passed away). Of course, I said “yes” but my husband said “no way”, that he was happy not to empty litter boxes anymore. Well, she brought them over anyway at my instruction and put them in the hall bathroom while Bruce was out. By the time I got home from work, I knew Bruce was there and worried about his reaction. I entered the door and didn’t see him so I went straight to the hall bath and discovered Bruce on the floor with the 2 kittens in his arms sleeping. It was the cutest sight ever. He looked up at me with the grin of a new parent and that was it…the kittens were staying! And he had named them after his favorite Harley bike!

Springer and Softail are precious to us and we hope they live a long time!

I bawl every time I read this…

Just as we celebrate our pets, we honor those who left us for now.

The Rainbow Bridge

(author unknown)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

Bubba is acting like a cranky old man. He doesn’t like me to leave him alone for too long. Sounds like a baby, eh?

I guess it’s the proverbial circle of life nearing its completion with Bubba. This doesn’t mean he’s gone by a long shot; it simply makes the time with him all the more precious.

My friend, Sue, also has an old cat who whines when she’s not around but acts like a kitten when she is. These can be the best times for the human-animal bond because we’ve gone through a lot together and understand each other. The love is also deeper.

When I lie on the couch and Bubba is perched on the top cushion he will reach down and tap me on the head. If he is ignored, the taps become swats until I turn toward him and nestle my head in his fat, furry body.

My reward is a paw stretched toward my cheek with loud purring and a scratchy cat tongue licking my face. He can act like a dog in a cat suit.

O! I just read the Rainbow Bridge for the first time and I cried my eyes out! This is a very beautiful piece of writing, I’m sure it’ll bring comfort to so many people who have had to say that last goodbye to their beloved pet – am I just a sentimental fool??!! Thank you for sharing it. I have a dear friend who lost two of her much loved cats earlier this year – one in a road accident and one to old age..I’m passing it on to her and I know she will have a cry but she will really appreciate it..xA

Yeah. I just copied and pasted it without reading because I, too, get teary-eyed reading the Rainbow Bridge. Hope it helps your friend. As for Bubba, he takes his position as an ambassador for senior cats very seriously, so I expect him to be around for a very long time.

  2. Hi All,
I’m a newbie here and I wanted to give you a brief idea about why I got my OldCat Tequila. I got Tequila in 2000 because I was missing my precious Bunny Boris. I’ll wait now to see if anyone replies to my post.

This Rainbow Bridge explanation made me cry. I lost my love, Chichi, a year and a half ago due to kidney failure. She was 14. I couldn’t do anything to save her. Money was always an issue. I was there when we put her to sleep and I was the last thing she saw before she took her last breath. I have her ashes with me. I think about her all the time and I miss her terribly. I hope to see her someday at the Rainbow Bridge!
