It’s autumn in New York and you don’t really want to walk down a chilly street and see a shivering stray cat. Lower your odds of encountering such a sad sight and check out the city’s biggest cat adoption event of the year.

Adopt-a-Cat will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Jacob Javits Center, and caps off New York Week for the Animals.

More than 20 rescue groups will have fur-tastic cats and kittens that are waiting for homes. I know, I know, it’s tough. Lack of time, money and seeing those sweet faces makes these adoption gatherings  tough. But if you have the resources, time — and  love– think about it. Your new furry friend will repay you with a lifetime of joy.

The adoption fest is part of a first for animal lovers because it takes place with Meet the Breeds, which features in the Cat Fanciers Association and the American Kennel Club.

Adopt-a-Cat is presented by the Mayor’s Alliance for New York City Animals.
